Amanda Butel
COUNSELLOR
Amanda is a warm, trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming counsellor who supports children, teenagers, and their families to feel safe, understood, and empowered. She brings a calm, steady presence to her work and believes every young person deserves a space where they can unpack their thoughts, make sense of their emotions, and explore their strengths at a pace that feels right for them.
Amanda has worked in Australia and overseas, giving her a deep appreciation for the many ways individuals communicate, regulate, and connect. She recognises that neurodivergent children often express themselves differently, and she provides an affirming environment where stimming, movement, quietness, creativity, and alternative communication are welcomed.
In sessions, Amanda works collaboratively using evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Narrative Therapy. She adapts each approach to suit the young person’s sensory profile, energy levels, communication style, and processing needs. When helpful, she integrates creative modalities—such as art-based activities, visual journaling, gentle role play, and movement-based grounding—to support emotional expression in ways that feel natural and pressure-free.
Her goal is to offer a therapeutic space where children and teenagers feel safe, seen, and celebrated as they build emotional understanding, communication skills, confidence, and self-advocacy. Amanda also helps neurodivergent young people explore identity, unmask gently, and develop compassionate strategies for regulating overwhelm.
Outside the therapy room, Amanda is a mum to three young people and two fur babies who keep life lively and cosy. She enjoys painting, beach walks, unboxing online deliveries, and pottering in her garden with a cup of tea in hand.
